Canada Declares Financial Support of $4,907,400 for Freestyle Canada and the 2023 FIS Moguls World Cup
On January 25, 2023, the Honorable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Sport declared a funding of $4,907,400 for Freestyle Canada in 2022–23. It is part of Canada’s initiative to create an environment for sports where young people can engage in healthy competition. Among the funding amount, $249,000 will be used to host the 2023 Federation International de Ski (FIS) Moguls World Cup from January 24 to 28 in Val St-Côme, Quebec.
As the official governing organization for freestyle skiing in Canada, Freestyle Canada has around 5,900 registrants. This year’s funding for the Moguls World Cup was processed through the hosting program of Sport Canada.
Minister of Sport showcased his interest in supporting “sports organizations in their efforts to better serve their athletes and create safer training environments for everyone.” The funding aims to support financially the regular operations and promotion of freestyle skiing among the Canadian population.
In doing so, eligible and high-performance players will be given financial assistance to compete on national and international platforms. In response to the immense moral and financial support that the Government of Canada has provided, Peter Judge, CEO of Freestyle Canada has recognized the role of their financial investment in creating opportunities for world-class Canadian athletes to compete on their own soil.
