Recent Labour Data States a High Rate of Employment for Immigrants in Canada

Immigrants in Canada make up 23% of the country’s population, as the 2021 census on immigration states. Moreover, more than 62% of Canadian immigrants are employed, with an employment rate of 70.7%. The data published by Labour Force Survey for October 2022 shows an increase of 119,000 full-time positions.

The 2021 census on immigration shows that such an increase in rates of employment is also accompanied by a rise in their wages. About 64.3% of the employees, with wages over $40 per hour, had received a raise in their pay. There has also been an increase in the rate of employment for both genders, be it full-time or part-time.

Provinces like Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have opened up their gates for immigrants to balance the shortage in their availability of labor force. Jobs have been made available in sectors like accommodation, food, manufacturing, and construction departments as well as the professional, scientific, and technical services sectors.

Moreover, due to an increase in hybrid positions, which includes 16% in public administration, 17.9% in professional, scientific, and technical services, and 21.7% in finance and real estate sectors, working has become far more convenient for immigrants with student permits.
