Step to curtail high US immigration rates--The latest update was briefed by the US Consulate General Karachi. It said that Pakistanis can’t avail US Green Card Visa lottery. This is due to high US immigration levels in the last two years period.
It needs to be noted that such US visas are meant for the nations having low immigration rates historically. So far, a total of 14,000 US visas have been issued by the US Consulate Karachi to foreign students, workers and business travellers. In 2015, 72,000 US visas were issued. Around 14,400 Pakistanis immigrated to the US in 2015.
In the year 2014, around 64,000 US visas were issued and 104,000 Pakistanis were granted US citizenship in the period of last ten years. So, the aim is to cut the soaring US immigration levels. The US consulate has warned the US visa aspirants against using money for getting US Diversity visas.
US Diversity Visa—US Diversity visa happens to be a special US immigration lottery. It is allowed to families from nations having low immigration rates to the US. it needs to be further mentioned that an increasing number of Pakistani families have been using this option to come to the US.
Seeing a growing number of Pakistanis in the US, the latter decided to stop the former from getting US Diversity Visas from now.
Other US visa options still open for Pakistanis—Meanwhile, it needs to be notable that still, other options are available for Pakistanis. These include US petitions, US student visas, US visitor visas and US exchange program visas.
Those having immediate family in the US can apply for immigrant visas. It takes two years for parents and one year for spouse and children. For siblings, the time varies.
