Canada is All Set to Welcome Foreign-Trained Dental Assistants Through Express Entry
Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants are amongst the 16 new occupations that were added to the National Occupational Classification (NOC). Applicants with any of these jobs will be eligible for applying under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program, a part of the Express Entry system. As IRCC maintains, the minimum requirement for eligibility under these occupational categories, the applicants must have a college diploma in the same and less than two years of apprenticeship training or on-the-job training of more than six months.
Guide to finding a high paying Job in Canada
The new occupations that come under the FSW program include Payroll administrators, nurse aides, pharmacy technical assistants, and many more including dental assistants. The work of dental hygienists would be to sterilize and manage equipment, take X-rays, etc. Considering the huge amount of training that goes into the work, there has been a crisis of dental assistants who can also effectively help in the clerical positions in dental offices.

To tackle this shortage, one way is to motivate the youth for such training, as Dr. Brian Barrett, executive director of the Dental Association of P.E.I. suggests. However, such a project might take a long-term trajectory. In that case, Express Entry’s economic immigration can be a quick way to address this issue through which the dental institutions can recruit dental assistants from the newly arriving foreign-trained pool of immigrants.
