Can You Study In One Province in Canada and Work in Another?

For an immigrant studying in Canada, it is quite possible to start working while studying depending on his type of work permit. If your work permit allows you to work on or off-campus and you meet all the eligibility of the job then you can work while studying but only after you join studies. Now can you study in one province in Canada and work in another province? Technically, it is possible because Canada offers open work permit that allows you to work in any province.

But practically can it be possible because the distances between two provinces can be a major constraint.

Work In Summer, Study in Winter/Fall or Opt For Distance Education

There are many students who work in one province like Alberta or British Columbia and study in Ontario or Nova Scotia. And they manage it by working during summers and returning to their universities during fall or winter. Using your long vacations for working when the schools or educational institutions are closed can help you earn those extra bucks that you may need during trying situation.

Another good option is to enroll yourself in a distance education course. While the options in this category can be limited as compared to the resident courses, it comes in handy when you have an exclusive job option that can serve as a decent addition to your resume once you complete the course. There is no need to worry about the level of education though because there is no compromise on quality, delivery, and availability.

So yes,  you can definitely study in one province in Canada and work in another province provided you have a valid work offer.

How Does This Situation Change The Taxes To Be Paid?

If you study and work in two different provinces then you will have to pay the extra difference in two taxes. For instance, if you work in Alberta your employer will tax you based on where you work. On the other hand, if you study and live in another province with higher tax then apart from paying the tax in Alberta you will have to pay the extra amount which is the difference between these two taxes.
