Study and Work Permit Holders in Canada Witnessed Huge Employment Opportunities in January

In January 2023, Canada witnessed a hike in gross employment as candidates were recruited for around 150,000 vacant jobs across various Canadian industries. In this increase in employment, the people belonging to the age group of 25-54 were mainly recruited, which also included a large number of Non-permanent Residents (NPRs).

Top 20 High Paying Jobs in Canada

Non-permanent Residents refer to the newcomers who are in the country with a study or work permit. In this way, more and more newcomers are contributing to the Canadian economy and working towards gaining the Canadian work experience necessary for acquiring permanent resident status. The overall unemployment rate has remained at 5% since last December. At the same time, the unemployment rate of immigrants in the country is consistent at 5.96% as of December 2022. 

Is It Difficult for Immigrants to Land Jobs in Canada?

The data shows that the sectors where most NPRs were recruited are professional, scientific, and technical services, retail trade, accommodation and food services, and health care and social assistance. Currently, the NPRs consist of 3.4 % of Canada’s total employment, showing the productive role of newcomers in the economy. The industries that will continue to witness huge hiring are wholesale and retail trade, health care and social assistance, educational services, and construction
