Process of sponsoring Siblings to Canada by A Canadian Permanent Resident Who is not yet a citizen

When it comes to sponsoring siblings, most of the Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents are quite willing to do so. However, the sponsorship is not possible for every sibling and can be done only under specific circumstances. There are a few conditions that must be met by people who wish to sponsor their brother and/or sister.

Conditions to be met before the process of sponsoring Siblings to Canada by A Canadian Permanent Resident can be initiated

• They must be a permanent resident or a Canadian Citizen
• They have to be 18 years of age 
• They must reside in Canada
• they have to file the sponsor application as per the guidelines
• They should not have any obligations towards prior sponsor applications and must not owe any money to the Canadian Government or the respective provincial government
• They have to meet the requirements of minimum income

In addition to the above, the below-mentioned conditions are required as well:

∙         The sponsor’s parents are deceased

∙         The siblings of the sponsor are below 18 years of age

In case the siblings are aged 18 years or above, they can be sponsored in case the sponsor doesn’t have a child, a spouse, close relatives, a common-law partner, a mother or a father, etc. or anyone who can be sponsored to Canada.

The conditions are quite tough, however, they are applicable to a few people. If you feel that these conditions might be applicable to you, it is recommended to discuss the situation with either a lawyer or an immigration consultant and seek legal advice. You must remember that bringing families together is among the objectives of the Canadian Immigration law and it could be worth asking!
