New Canada Emergency Response Benefit(Cerb) Announcement – What’s in store for Canadians?

The people of Canada facing a severe financial crisis due to the Covid19 pandemic have a reason to be happy as the government has decided to extend the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) for another month. The Canadian government has announced an enhanced employment Insurance program that is more approachable and almost 400,000 more people will be added in this Employment insurance (EI) in the coming weeks of September.

Finance minister Chrystia Freeland has said that new legislation is in the pipeline to ensure that employed and self-employed Canadians can stand on their own once the economy reopens, and help the businesses and workers to stand on their own. She further added, “we are transitioning to more nimble and flexible programs that can help Canadians get back to work while at the same time ensuring that we are able to quickly respond to any further labor market impacts due to the ongoing pandemic.”

The self-employed Canadians and those not eligible for EI will get financial support of $400 per week for 26 weeks as part of this new scheme. These people can help themselves by accessing to job banks and many other tools to plan your career.

Further many training opportunities will be provided to people in collaboration with territories & provinces to help them to re-join the workforce once the economy begins to open slowly. An amount of $500 will be given to those people who are required to self-isolate themselves for reasons due to the disease.

CANADA RECOVERY CAREGIVING- BENEFITS FOR YOU

Under ‘Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit’ people will receive $500 weekly for up to 26 weeks per household if they have the following responsibilities:

1. If a family has a member with disabilities or is dependent, is affected by the closure of caregiving facilities due to Covid19.

2. Those children who are under the age of 12 and are affected by the closure of day-care school.
3. Children and family members with disabilities or dependents who can’t go to the day-care facilities under the advice of Doctors because they fall under the high-risk category of contacting Covid19.

In July Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau had made the first announcement of the transition of CERB recipients to EI, promising new profits to gig and contract workers who were originally not eligible for the insurance program. He further said the people who need this program will be left out of the program.
