IRCC Assigns 60,000 Pending Applications to Inactive Immigration Offices

Recently an Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) request made by the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) was processed which revealed the data regarding IRCC and its initiatives to tackle the application backlog. In this report, it is shown that around 60,000 pending applications have been assigned to 779 inactive IRCC officers for processing.
IRCC uses the Global Case Management System (GCMS) for processing applications that are made for citizenship or immigration purposes. Inactive IRCC officers entail that they no longer use the GCMS.

These inactive IRCC officers are spread across various Canadian border ports and other such places where immigration is processed, while they are also situated in various consulates. The recently published report states the codes of these officers, as well as their history of using the GCMS. One can find these officers through their codes which can be accessed by going through their GCMS notes. However, it is still unknown why IRCC has come to inactive users for assigning pending applications.
Canada’s efforts in fighting the labor shortage crisis have resulted in the recruitment of d 1,250 new employees IRCC. With this and many more initiatives, Canada’s backlog has been reduced to 2.2 million people. At the same time, IRCC aims to develop and adapt to a more advanced virtual system to fasten the immigration process.
