Working as a nanny has its special advantages. Those who are interested in working as a nanny abroad can certainly think of immigrating to Canada as a nanny. The demands for this particular field have escalated over the years with more couples actively engaged in pursuing their careers. So what would you need to do to immigrate to Canada as a nanny? Is there any specific visa dedicated to this profession? Here are the details!
Immigrating to Canada As Nanny- Four Possible Options
There is no specific visa for caregivers. In general, the immigration process in Canada is a bit complex. Additionally, all the caregivers have to go through the same process similar to those belonging to other professions. You can opt for programs that further help you to gain permanent residency. In case you are only interested in working as a nanny for a few years, you can work temporarily in the country.
As a nanny or a caregiver, you can get a permanent resident visa after working in the field for two years. You can choose from four possible options from the immigration streams meant for caregivers. These include:
- Live-in Caregiver Program: Due to COVID-19 currently the federal is not accepting applications under this stream. Still, you do have a chance of immigrating to Canada as a nanny under this stream if you already have a work permit under this category.
- Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot: These two are pilot programs for five years that allows a caregiver and family to move to Canada only if they want to become a permanent resident in the due course. These two programs also have three categories under which you can apply. It includes those who have never worked in Canada as a full-time caregiver, those who have a little experience of working as a caregiver, and lastly those who have worked for 24 months as a caregiver in Canada.
- Temporary Foreign Worker: In case you do not qualify for any of the above programs, the only option remaining is applying under the temporary foreign worker program. General requirements for this program include the ability to provide care for a minimum of 30 hours per week. Also, you should be ready to work in the home of your employer. Although it is not mandatory it will be helpful if you have some basic qualifications like certification in a childcare program, a secondary schooling degree, or First Aid and CPR training.

Requirements For Immigrating To Canada As Nanny
The requirements for immigrating to Canada as a caregiver might change according to the program you select. However, you must fulfill two requirements that are a must to qualify for all the above-mentioned programs. The first one is that you need to have an employer who readily completes the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
Secondly, you will have to pass a language test irrespective of the program under which you are applying. The test is to ensure your proficiency in either English or French. Being proficient in either of these languages ensure that your transition into the life of Canada is smooth. You have to qualify CELPIP-G or ILETS for the English test. For establishing your skills in French you have to take TEF Canada.
