Canada sees Record Vacancies across Food and Accommodation Sectors
Canada sees Record Vacancies across Food and Accommodation Sectors
Canada has always been an immigrant’s top choice over past few years. With better quality of life and livelihood clubbed with the wider variety of budgets to work around, settling in Canada has always been a chase worthy dream. Provinces in Canada, such as Alberta are seeing heightened interest in its residency programs.
- With Covid and its pangs tightening grasp though, immigrants were caught off guard. Thanks to federal application halting and procedural delays, the immigration numbers to Canada have been minuscule of late.
- However, borders are gradually opening up and the authorities are re-considering all applications for settlement in Canada.
- The job market has suddenly warmed up, as a result. Food services, healthcare and accommodation sectors are much in demand.
- In May this year, recruitment targets for Canadian jobs in varied sectors touched more than 6.7 lacs. The healthcare sector accounted for about 1/6th of all vacancies—amounting to more than a lac positions on offer.
- The food and accommodation niches saw vacancies close to 80,000. The sectors for retail trade also saw close to 75,000 vacancies by July 2021.
Job availability based on province ranked from highest to lowest—in the following order-
- Quebec
- British Columbia
- New Brunswick
- Newfoundland and Labrador
Overall, the food and accommodation industry accounted for 7.8 percent rate of vacancy in the post-Covid recruitment picture. The world is adjusting with the pandemic and new measures enable gradual opening up of places that had been shut down. Additionally, entrepreneurs and investors are finally gaining guts to open up new places too.
Why the sudden Surge?
However, you must not miss out noting the fact that Canada has lost a large chunk of part-time workers in the food business since students have failed to return to the country even now. This sector saw heavy part-time working participation from the student population. Therefore, recruitment in this industry was never an issue, considering the seasonal hiring surges as well.
Hiring is on, big Time
- The heightened demand in the sectors mentioned has also been pumped by the hiring drive reinstatements. Hiring actually saw complete stoppage since the pandemic had begun.
- There also have been reopening of profiles that were left mid-way in the recruitment drive, due to Covid.
- Coming fall, Canada might even experience shortage of staff.
- With job resignations having increased last year, this year, even with re-recruitment programs, business owners might have to depend heavily on immigrants to help them sail through.
- The target for immigrant intake this year has been set at 401,000. Just on paper, each month needs to see filling up with 43000 immigrants starting July, to achieve this target.
No wonder the job market on some counts is looking up so high. This is perhaps an ideal time to explore immigration to Canada if you have the right experiences in the above sectors.
