Can a Person With 5-year US Visa Ban Get Canadian Visitor Visa?

When it comes to approving visitor visas, the US  and Canada have strict laws and regulations. Most of the time, an immigrant is banned in the US for gaining entry citing wrong reasons. There are other reasons like involvement in criminal activities, lack of funds, etc that can lead to a 5-year US Visa ban. Interestingly, the US has an international agreement with New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and the UK called “Five Eyes.”

According to this agreement, the border information of one country is automatically shared with the other four countries who are a part of this agreement which also includes this five-year ban. The ban indicates that the person has done something that the other four countries would not like to happen within their borders.

Generally, once a person gets a 5-year US Visa ban, the chances of his admittance to the other four countries is almost impossible. The ban automatically indicates that the person has no respect for the laws. Since Canada and America share borders and people in these countries have comparatively easy access to both these lands, it is highly unlikely that you will get a visitor visa after the US Visa ban.

Importantly, the Canadian visitor visa form asks for details if a person has earlier been banned or deported from any country, and hence in no way you can escape this scrutiny. But still, there is hope because certain decisions are made at the discretion of immigration officials. And one such turning point can be your purpose of visit.

If you have the right documents supporting proof of employment, adequate funds, and good health, then your purpose of visit can impress the officials and may persuade them to give you a Canadian visitor visa. But the purpose must be genuine and serious enough such as a dying Canadian relative, family members, or children stuck in Canada.
