IRCC Likely to Introduce Changes in Express Entry Selection Criteria in 2023
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is bringing some policy changes in the Express Entry draws in 2023 to tackle the current labor shortage in Canada. Although no official declaration has been issued for the same, there has recently been a meeting between the stakeholders and IRCC to decide what aspects of the immigration application process can be improved.
It is expected that IRCC will emphasize more on the categories such as educational credentials or work experience than a high CRS score. At the same time, proficiency in an official language that can contribute to better performance in the Canadian work culture will probably be prioritized according to the new changes. Occupational experience will become the key factor along with Canadian work experience in order to focus on immigration that can help the Canadian economy with their skillsets and expertise in specific fields.

Some of the new possible categories include international students in Canada who can be issued permanent residency to tackle the labor shortage on an immediate basis. Moreover, categories will be generated based on critical labor crises in particular industries and job positions to create a target-based immigration system. Moreover, French-speaking or bilingual candidates will be given preference in order to widen the scope of their contribution to Canada.
