What is Canada Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program?—Under PGP immigration category, Canada permanent residents and Canada citizens can offer sponsorship for their elder family members for getting Canada permanent residency.

So, this enables parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or Canada permanent residents to come and live with their children in Canada. Canada will re-open its PGP program in the month of January next year.

Is there any other scheme for parents and grandparents?—Yes, parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or Canada permanent residents can come to Canada and live with their children for a long period of time under Canada Super Visa immigration scheme.

So, there is no reason for getting disappointed for those who could not apply for Canada parents and grandparents sponsorship scheme this year as they can come to Canada and get reunified with their children by applying for Canada Super Visa. And the best thing about Canada Super Visas is that such Canada visas enable parents or grandparents to come and live in Canada for a period of up to two years.

And this is certainly a great step by Canada immigration department CIC(Citizenship and Immigration Canada).

Giving details about such efforts of family reunification by Canada government, Canada immigration minister Chris Alexander said the significance of spending time with loved ones is quite well understood and that’s why Canada remains reiterated for reducing immigration backlogs and waiting times for faster family reunifications in the coming times.

It needs to be noted that Canada already has quite generous program of family reunification for immigrants. And Canada hopes to welcome roughly 20,000 parents and grandparents into Canada by the end of this year.
