Construction Industry in British Columbia prefers recruiting Irish labors

Experiencing the labor shortage in Canada, the employers in British Columbia seem to prefer Irish labors to fill up the vacancies. This leaves the unemployed Canadians without a job and inn turn the employers hire labors at a cheaper cost.

The vacancies

According to a report published by the Canadian press, employers of Construction industry in B.C. are likely to hire almost 600 immigrants from Ireland to fill up the vacancies.

The Vice president of Association of Construction industry in the province informs that with one in five students taking up a job in this industry, there is still going to be a high vacancy to get filled up.

Hiring Immigrants
Job fairs would be organized in Ireland by the employers of the industry, half of them coming from the province and the aim would be to hire workers in at least 50 trades of construction industry.
Such a step was already taken in the early months of 2012 to hire workers for high quality apprenticeship program.

Facilitating the program
Two individuals from Provincial Nominee Program would be sent to ensure faster immigration to Canada. These individuals would be providing adequate information about immigrating to Canada.

To promote more of immigrants, the number of quote is increased for Irish Immigrants. Till 2012 this quota was 5,350, and now it is 6,350. This number is likely to reach the figure of 10,000 by 2014.

Reasons for preferring Irish Immigrants
An Economist opines that people coming from Ireland speak at least one official language of Canada and geographically they are closely located. This gives them an edge as their education and experience can be judged well by the employers in Canada. The country gets an advantage over US due to availability of jobs and event he workers are paid better than the many other countries.

The ignorance for local labors
Some claim that the employers are too interested in hiring local labors because they want to save upon the expenditure. And if someone hires immigrants the cost goes down.

Experts in the industry also believe that enough measures are not taken to train up the local labors to serve the construction industry. They also fear that soon there could be a shortage of jobs if enough steps are not taken in this direction. There are a section of people who inform that the model for making predictions on labor needs in the days to come is unrealistic and non-reliable too.

When it comes to filling up vacancies, employers in the country seem to be holding an inclination towards immigrant workers than the local ones. And this is only for the reason that they have to pay less to these outsiders than what they pay the Canadian workers. However, employers need to understand that even the local have to survive and for that they need a job. Enough measures need to be adopted by the Government to ensure that the vacancies are first filled by the people of Canada.
