United Kingdom, 24th October: A recent UK visa scam results in abolishing of the University of Wales.
So, from now onwards, the 120-year-old second largest university in the UK will come to an end following a tail of damaging revelations that resulted in resignation of its chairman Hugh Thomas.
Fate of institutes under University of Wales-– The shameful end to the once supremely reigning University of Wales (UoW) is the result of a recent foreign student visa scam. Founded in the year 1893, the UoW includes several institutes situated around Wales. An obvious question that comes to many minds is what will happen to various educational institutes under the University of Wales.
Well, all these institutes will either become independent universities or will be combining to make new universities. Trinity Saint David in Carmarthen and Lampeter will merge with Swansea Metropolitan while retaining its earlier name of University of Wales: Trinity Saint David.
Meanwhile, Newport and Glyndwr situated in Wrexham will now become independent universities.
End of an era for University of Wales–bad name for University of Wales-– Several scandals have been hitting the University of Wales thus giving a bad reputation to the institute. It involved several affiliated international colleges awarding degrees from University of Wales.
And the recent incidence that came to the surface last week involved Rayat London College. This college in the UK was accused of selling answers to the diploma questions prior to taking the test thus enabling foreign students a chance to grab a UK visa for getting admission in an MBA program by University of Wales.
The diplomas also enabled exempted foreign students from majority of the work. The UK immigration officials are currently probing the issue while the college has been ordered suspension with immediate effect thus rendering it illegible to admit foreign students.
A report by Quality Assurance Agency had highlighted serious loopholes in the University of Wales’ working with around 130 associated colleges the world over. The university failed to have proper checks at a number of foreign institutes, the report said while issuing a warning to review its practices overseas immediately.
This led to a call for scrapping the University of Wales by several Vice-chancellors of other universities.
