More US doctors immigrating to Canada

Since, Canada is facing shortage of medicos in the nation, so, America’s loss seems to be becoming Canada’s gain.
Although, the number of US doctors leaving for Canada is growing significantly, the past few years has also seen a considerable decline in the number of doctors moving out of Canada.

As per the Canadian Institute for Health Information data for the last five years, the doctors immigrating to Canada is far greater than the number of doctors leaving Canada.

Way back in 1990s, Canada, too, had suffered a similar large scale exodus of doctors to America. This was largely due to several Canadian health reforms introduced by the Canadian government.

Doctors in the US feel that their immediate neighbor in the north is an attractive nation to live and work.

This is being attributed to US health reforms introduced by the US government. Moreover, Canada is an attractive place for several foreigner doctors including those from the US since it offers higher payouts to medicos.

It’s not just higher pay for doctors in Canada that is alluring more US doctors to immigrate to Canada; there are several other factors too. These include more independence in their practices resulting in more comfortable environments for work in Canada. And the growing uncertainty regarding affects of health reforms in America is complicating things for the US.

As per CEO of CanAM Physician Recruiting, Halifax, John Philpott, Canada is, undoubtedly, the top nation in the world for physicians to live and work in. hence, many doctors in the US are shirking away from taking calls from the US companies to work on a regular basis.
HealthForce Ontario, an agency involved in recruitment of doctors and other medico staff, reveals that the number of MDs from America seeking immigration to Canada has been growing for the last three years period since the launch of the recruitment agency three years ago.

The number of US doctors moving to Canada has gone up from 10 in 2007 to 87 in 2009. The number of US doctors coming to Canada this year till July has already reached 66.
