Government getting more serious about protection of foreign students

Now that the image of the A$15.5 billion overseas education industry of the country is being hampered with fears of racism and violence, Australia will take another step forward in order to boost protection of students from foreign countries.
The move by the government which includes a set of new strategies inside the country along with a high-level delegation to India comes to the scene after there appeared reports that official figures might well have understated deaths of international students in the country.

Such a move was also triggered by the murder of a 26-year old student from China who was studying accountancy in Tasmania, and reports that Indians were still assaulted in Sydney. It also followed the demand by the Supreme Court of India to its government to ensure the safety of its students studying abroad.

In cooperation with Australia, New Delhi also plans to crack down on immoral immigration agents who take undue advantage of students planning to study in Australia. Following a series of insensible, brutal attacks on foreign students in Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide last month, Australia has been under extreme criticism in the Indian media and it is even estimated that the number of people who have been victims of racial abuse in the country has exceeded 1400.

Not just India, even China complained of violence in Australia against its students, which was also confirmed by the tragic killing of Zhang Yu.

Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett, said that international students are always welcome in the country and they will do all that is in their hands as a Parliament and as a government to make sure that foreign students are safe and they are respected and looked after.

Another case signifying all is not well in Australia emerged in a Facebook group which had the theme that Australia was full and it also consisted of hate messages urging the nation to clean-up its immigrant population. The most disturbing part about the group was that it consisted of over 64,000 members.
