He is no longer welcomed in Canada

Love for a Canadian woman drove a Michigan man to enter Canada in an illegal manner and he was sentenced yesterday to 90 days in jail.

Love for a Canadian woman drove a Michigan man to enter Canada in an illegal manner and he was sentenced yesterday to 90 days in jail.

31-year-old Ryan Smith pleaded guilty to being in Canada unlawfully and also possession of a false document in Chatham on 25th of June.

The court heard that Mr. Smith fell in love with a Canadian woman and currently, she is pregnant. Defense lawyer James Guggisberg said that the case is all about love and nothing else.

Immigration investigators, acting on a tip, found that Smith was at a Chatham apartment after he entered Canada by the use of Windsor’s Ambassador Bridge.

His Michigan identification card, with a Detroit address, had his correct birth date, but a false Ontario birth certificate that he possessed identified him as 10 years younger than he actually is.

Smith was deported in 2006 and in 2007 he was sentenced to 90 days in jail on his second illegal entry into the country. A theft conviction from his youth barred his entry to Canada.

Michael Robb, a federal prosecutor, said that the amateur forgery used to create the Ontario birth certificate and the third illegal entry into Canada has left Smith permanently inadmissible to the country. He said that he is Smith will not be allowed into the country under any circumstances and it does not matter as to how many children he fathers here.

Smith told the court that he never meant any disrespect to the Canadian law, but he didn’t want to be a runaway father.
