JD-U MP Prabhunath Singh’s troubles are far from over

Patna — Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MP Prabhunath Singh’s troubles are far from over with the Patna High Court again ordering a probe into a complaint of kidnapping and murder against him.

Additional director-general of police D.N. Gautam was Wednesday directed by the court to probe into the allegations against Prabhunath Singh, who is an accused in a case related to murder during the 1995 Assembly poll.

In an interim report submitted before the court, Gautam expressed his displeasure at an earlier police investigation.

After going through the report, the court also directed the Saran superintendent of police to record statements of Lal Muni Devi, a key witness in the murder of her son Rajendra Rai.

She was provided police protection and kept in high security guesthouse after she told the court that she was being threatened.

Gautam was reportedly taken off from the case last month by the state government under pressure from Singh. But when the issue came to the notice of the court, it ordered the official to submit the interim report in the case.

Prabhunath Singh is an MP from Maharajganj and deputy leader of Bihar’s ruling JD-U parliamentary party. He faces over two dozen criminal charges, including of murder, kidnapping and extortion.
