Dhoni ranked eighth in ODI batting list

Dubai — Eighth-placed Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the lone Indian among the top 10 batsmen while Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan occupy the ninth and 10th spots respectively among the bowlers in the official one-day international rankings.

Dhoni has 747 rating points in the list headed by Mike Hussey with 805 points following the Australian’s superb performance in the DLF Cup triangular series in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Pathan with 343 points is also ranked fifth in the all-rounders’ list, which is headed by South Africa’s Shaun Pollock, who has 459 points.

The South African fast bowler is still the world’s top-ranked bowler followed by Brett Lee of Australia. The Aussie tearaway had an excellent DLF Cup, in which he took 12 wickets in three games and was adjudged the Man of the Tournament.

Only 12 batsmen have reached a higher rating than Hussey’s 805 points in the last 10 years. And although nobody has reached 900 rating points since South Africa’s Gary Kirsten in 1996, the Australian could exactly achieve the mark in few weeks.

Hussey is still six innings short of qualifying for a full ranking so he could yet extend his lead at the top provided he maintains his form in the ICC Champions Trophy, which starts Saturday.
