Punjab hopeful to bag Tata Motors’ new Truck Manufacturing Plant

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday said the state was hopeful of netting Tata Motors’- India’s largest and only fully integrated automobile company, upcoming project to manufacture trucks.

Mr. Singh said, “Tatas had four projects in offing, two of which have already been sanctioned for West Bengal and Uttaranchal. Two are still pending, for which Punjab is facing competition from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.”

He expressed confidence that Punjab would be able to clinch the deal for Tata’s truck manufacturing plant.

Telling about his former plans about the company’s car plant, he said “Although we were keen to invite Tata for their small car plant in the state, but unluckily it has gone to West Bengal.”

He said Punjab government was also in talks with Volkswagen-an automobile manufacturer based in Wolfsburg, Germany in the State of Lower Saxony, for its proposed plant.

Stating about his third round of talks with the German auto manufacturer, which is scheduled to be held on June 8, he said, “Two rounds of talks with Volkswagen were very successful and if everything goes well, the project will be set up in Punjab only.”
