How Long can a Student Stay in Canada after the Study Course?
Student can stay longer in Canada after study course.
Canada, with its friendly visa application process for visitors, is known for attracting international citizens for various purposes. It is one of the top priority nations for international students to study courses. Out of the total applications received, most applications are for study purposes.
Why Do You Need A Study Visa?
As the name suggests, the study visa is a document that allows immigrants to enter Canada for studying. It is issued by IRCC ( Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for a limited time.
The time limit depends on the type and duration of courses or programs you opt. However, you don’t require to obtain a study permit for the short term courses less than six months duration.
The expiry date of your study visa will be printed on your visa card. The study permit expires within 90 days after completing your course regardless of the time mentioned in your visa card.
Remember, if you want to stay longer in Canada or think to settle down there permanently, you will need to renew or change the title of your visa.
Alternatives Available to Stay Longer After Study Course

After completing studies, many international students wish to stay longer in Canada and work to utilize the opportunities available there.
The Canadian government provides some options using which immigrants can avail the benefits of working in Canadian provinces. Later, they can also apply for PR (Permanent Resident) status. Let’s take a look at the available options.

Getting a Canadian PR (Permanent Resident) status is a dream for many international visitors, and PGWP gets them closer to their wish.
You may apply for PGWP after you completed your graduation from a DLI (Designated Learning Institution). The validity of PGWP depends on the duration of your course. However, if-
- Your course was fewer than eight months; you can’t apply for PGWP.
- You completed a course between 8 months to 2 years; your PGWP will be valid for the same duration as your program.
- Your program was of 2 years or more; you may get a PGWP which is valid for three years.
Master Degree Program
After completing your graduation, if you want to continue your studies, you may go for a master’s degree program.
However, you must apply for a study permit for continuing your education to obtain higher degrees.
Bottom Line
Your stay and work in Canadian states after your study course can surely give feathers to your goals. Also, it can benefit you in living in Canada as a permanent resident.
