IRCC States Temporary Residence Applicants in Canada Need to Provide Biometric

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently announced that Temporary residence applicants from Canada will be required to provide biometrics from now on. The website of IRCC states that the aforementioned rule is to be followed for all temporary residence applications from individuals in Canada made on or after 23rd February 2023.

This requirement for biometrics was suspended three years ago during the difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic. In July 2020, IRCC made this temporary change to the requirement of the biometrics where the temporary residents in Canada were exempted from providing biometrics due to health restrictions.

Biometrics needed from Students, Workers, Visitors to extend their stay in Country or if they want to restore status of Temporary Resident

Now, as the policy is reversed, biometrics will be needed from students, workers, or visitors who want to extend their stay in the country. It is equally needed in case they want to restore their status of temporary residence. For work or study permits as well as for visitor visas, the biometric of the applicant will be required.

According to IRCC, there are more than 70 Service Canada Centre collection sites throughout Canada, where the applicant provide their temporary biometrics. For this, they are required to make an appointment at the collection site.
