Canada Announces its Immigration Objectives for Asia and the Americas

The government of Canada has recently announced its immigration plans and objectives for specific countries in the world. In this attempt to tackle the growing labor crisis in Canada,  Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) focuses on Asia and the Americas as the main source of incoming immigrants. However, their emphasis goes beyond the economy class, also including refugees and asylum seekers.

In the case of Asia, IRCC’s goal is to focus on migration management as a large number of immigrants from this region seek permanent residency in Canada. In that case, the immigration gateways are being expanded to accommodate as many worthy applicants as possible. Moreover, with the human rights crisis in many places in Asia, IRCC aims to support these refugee populations. Within Asia, India has become the key supplier of immigrants in Canada, hence motivating further economic collaborations in terms of immigration.

For the Americas, Canada’s aim is to utilize the full potential of this region’s economic relationship with Canada, while forming immigration ties that can help Canada’s economy. According to a recent settlement, Canada is to welcome around 800 refugees from the Americas in 2023. Hereby, by promoting the existing immigration pathways along with expanding them to other economic classes, Canada aims to increase its immigration population in a way that can help all sectors of the Canadian economy.
