Canada in Desperate Need of More Staff: Health Care Sector Suffers from Record Vacancies
Statistics Canada’s recent August report, which meticulously documents the facts and figures of the Canadian job market, shows a record number of vacancies. The rising trend in the number of vacancies has remained a consistent feature since their July report. However, the difference between the reports from the last year and the August 2022 report is substantial. As of the last report, there is an all-time high of 1,52,000 vacancies in the healthcare sector in the Canadian job market.
The overall number of vacancies across all sectors in the August 2022 report stands at 9,58,500, while the figure was only 9,12,900 this time last year.
The healthcare and social assistance sector is registering the highest number of vacancies, along with a noted dysfunction at a national scale. Certain healthcare institutions have reportedly been shutting down specific services, owing to a shortage of staff.
To return to a state of normal efficiency as soon as possible, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) is taking measures to facilitate higher degrees of skilled healthcare professional immigration to fill the vacancies, according to sources.
