The crime rate in Canada has been escalating for the last few years, especially in British Columbia (B.C.). According to crime data released recently by MacLean in its annual report, 8 of the top 25 most dangerous cities in Canada are from BC. The news magazine made a study of 237 cities in the country to come out with this annual ranking. These are the cities in Canada that an Immigrant must avoid to settle.
Crime Severity Index was used to rank these cities in the most dangerous category. The Index is calculated based on the statistics that Canada uses to measure all the crimes committed in the crime on the basis of seriousness and volume of a particular crime. Manitoba and Saskatchewan communities are in the top four spots whereas Quesnel from B.C. is ranked on the 5th spot and hence is the most dangerous city in British Columbia.
Based on ‘all crimes’ Quensel ranks 3rd among the top 10.

- Portage la Prairie, Man.
- Prince Albert, Sask.
- Quesnel, B.C.

- Terrace, B.C.
- Williams Lake, B.C.
- Timmins, Ont.

Crime Situation In Quesnel Is Growing At an Alarming Speed
The report says that the crime severity index in Quesnel has escalated in the last five years. Incidentally, Quesnel is ranked at the second spot in terms of cities where the crime severity index has grown. Apart from one homicide, other crimes that were committed at large in this small B.C. town with a 10,200 population include robbery, sexual assault, and assault.
It is also in the top 10 along with William Lake and Terrace when it comes to the homicide rate. For assaults, Terrace is the only B.C. city placed in the top 10 rankings at eighth place. B.C. cities also are also at the top when it comes to impaired driving which is considered one of the most dangerous categories in the country. Cities that fall in the top-rankings under this category include Whistler, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, and Nelson.
Immigrants interested in shifting to Canada should take into account all these statistics before they apply for a position in any of the above cities. While the country does boast of a low crime rate and high community safety, for new entrants things can turn nasty if they suddenly find themselves in a town or community known for its high criminal activity.
