Working In Canada On Temporary Basis

There are more than 3,00,000 foreign nationals that enter Canada each year through TFWP. TFWP stands for Temporary Foreign Worker Program that allows employers in Canada to hire a foreign worker for some time. For that, you need to have a valid job offer from the employer in Canada so that you can get a work permit. But unlike the system that prevails in the U.S., there isn’t any lottery system that can determine who will get accepted. Basically, if both you and the employer meets the requirements of TFWP, your application gets processed.

Global Talent Stream was launched by the Canadian Government in June 2017 that provides a processing standard of two-weeks in order to get a work permit if the employer is either hiring the worker for a position that is identified on the list of Global Talent occupation or if it is referred by a designated partner to the Global Talent Stream. Most of the occupations that are identified are in the IT sector.

Options For Permanent Immigration To Canada

You are a strong candidate for immigration to Canada if you reside in the US with an H-1B visa. The three major categories of Federal Canadian Immigration Programs are: FSW (Federal Skilled Worker), FST (Federal Skilled Trades), CEC (Canadian Experience Class), and the Federal Express Entry system manages these programs. When you fulfill the eligibility criteria, you can take part in any one program that comes under the Express Entry and submit your profile in their pool. When you do that, you get a CRS Score (Comprehensive Ranking System) on the basis of your work experience, education level, and age. The candidates with high ranks are given a chance to apply for permanent residence.

If you were a skilled job-holder in the US, you would mostly fulfill all the requirements for the FSW Program. You can also apply for provincial nomination if you fulfill the eligibility criteria of the Provincial Nominee Program. If you get success in this, then you can apply for permanent residence via IRCC.

Hopefully, this article answers many of your questions for Canadian PR if you are an H-1B Visa Holder.
