In many provinces and territories, like Alberta, Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, Labrador, Yukon, New Brunswick, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut; the government is now accepting applications for the Emergency On-farm Support Fund.
The worth of this fund is C$35 million that will be directed towards infrastructure improvements to the employees residing in workstations or quarters, temporary or emergency housing, personal protective equipment (PPE), work stations, sanitary stations, etc.
The governments of other provinces help in finalizing delivery arrangements. Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Marie-Claude Bibeau said that their prime focus is to protect the health and well-being of all the workers on the farm who are working hard to ensure that Canada is secured with enough food supply, especially in the time of pandemic.
Thus, farmers need complete support and correct measures to safeguard their health and control the spread of the virus.
Canada On-Farm Emergency Fund Distribution- Would be encouraging migrant workers
Whatever contributions made under the Canada On-farm Emergency Fund, the cost will be shared with the applications on a 50:50 basis, i.e. up to C$100,000. For the young and women applicants, the split will be 60:40 because the Canadian government aims to promote and empower the youth and women in the agricultural sector.
