More Canadians Eligible for Enhanced Employment Insurance

Enhanced Employment Insurance

With the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CREB) coming to end on 3rd October, the Central Government of Canada has opened up new options for those unemployed immigrants who have been out of employment because of the COVID 19 pandemic. Let us tell you about the new Employment Indemnity Program and changes in it.

Revamped Employment Indemnity Program

According to employment and social Development Canada, this revamped Employment Indemnity program is likely to support about 400,000 Canadians who were not entitled under the previous scheme.

The Canadian Government has requested all those who have been covered under CERB, which was only for 28 weeks, to enroll for this new program. All the immigrants are going to benefit from this new scheme.

For all those who want to avail this benefit will need to sign up for Employment Insurance via Service Canada and create M Service Canada Account. All individuals who are self-employed and who have 900 sequence social insurance numbers or have been benefitted through the Canada Revenue Agency will also require to sign up through this agency.

According to the Canadian Government, all those Canadians who don’t have work will benefit from this Insurance and get a payable profit for 26 weeks for an amount of minimum $500 a week, and an extended parental benefit of $300 per week.

Who will benefit from Enhanced Employment Insurance?

This enhanced Employment Insurance also supports those Canadians to find work and continue to claim more income support. Under this ‘Work while on Claim’ rules, all those who make approximately $38,000 from work in a year will continue to receive a part of their EI profits.

All those employers who are registered under Service Canada will also benefit from this by using their Supplemental Unemployment Benefit (SUB) by providing more wide-ranging profits support to their employees. The Canadian government has said that all payments made under plans registered under SUB do not come under earnings, therefore, are not detectable from Employment Insurance benefits.

Employment and Social Development Canada has said that the EI based program will provide 120 hours of ensured work. And for those calming EI usual and work-sharing based benefits will get 300 insurable hours of work.

One-time credit of 480 insurable work hours is guaranteed for all those who claim maternity, sickness, parental, sympathetic care, and family caregiver related benefits. Prime Minister Trudeau has said that he will make sure that ‘No one is left behind’.

Bill C-2 expands the revival benefits for performance and contract workers and ensures that those Canadians who do not qualify for EI can go for temporary measures.

The government of Canadas has ensured through these flexible measures more and more Canadians get work as the economy is reopening after the pandemic.
