Studying in Canada Has Worsened: Rejection of International Students Increase!

Education in Canada seems biased for quite some time now. According to the latest reports, more than half of the international students’ immigration to Canada has been canceled. This is as per the records between January and May for the undergraduate students this year. Furthermore, students from African nations happen to be more victimized.

Studying in Canada Has Worsened: Rejection of International Students Increase!

If you think of studying in Canada, then rethink! This is because of the appalling rates of refusal of international students. Most of the refusals are seen in case of the students admitted to various undergraduate programs around the country during the period between January and May this year.

Reports of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada by Polestar reveal that over 50 percent of these students were declined their immigration during this year’s winter and spring. Besides, the students who were to attend the primary, secondary, post-secondary and language programs are refused by 39% during the same period.

The North American study abroad has seen massive rejections. It has been so for quite some time now. But, the magnitude of the same has increased dramatically in the last decade or so.

However, at Saint Mary’s University, where one out of 3 students 934%) are international, the condition is quite the reverse. The permit for studying in Canada has rather improved for the international students, where approvals are even more than 90 %, going by the words of the president of the institution, Robert Summerby-Murray. He doesn’t see a 40% rate of rejection, he added.

Canadian Study Permit Refusals Aggravate in 2019: Africans Become the Victims

The countries of origin are mattering as per the latest assessment for the international students with the dream of studying in Canada. A deep look at the increased rates reveals that African students are mostly unfortunate ones.

The refusal rates for the applications from students based out of Nigeria and Algeria are 81% and 86% respectively. This lies in sharp contradiction to the students belonging to the Asian nations, Japan and Korea for example. The rejection is only 4% as the records say.

Polestar importantly notes that this might be due to a higher number of students opting for English as their second language (ESL) programs when it comes to the Asian counterparts. Hence, less rejection ensues.

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada are instructed to expand opportunities for the students belonging to the African nations for studying in Canada. The performances from the African students have always been excellent but sadly the approvals are dipping as ever, laments Alain Roy, Vice President of Colleges and Institutes Canada.

Note – A Canadian study permit for international students varies according to the duration of their courses. Students from abroad shall only require a permit if their courses are of six months or more. The students can either apply for a permit online or from one of the local visa application centers against a fee of CA $150 (US$ 117). The primary documents that they need include the university acceptance letter, passport and proof of financial support amidst others.

The rejection of your immigration, if you’re looking to study in Canada, can be denied due to various reasons. Insufficient financial support, students posing as alarming to the health and security of Canada and incomplete or fraudulent applications are the main reasons for refusal.

With the exceeding number of students with fraudulent applications, 10% of them between February 2018 to November 2018, the rejection increase. Harpreet Kochhar, Assistant Deputy Minister of Immigration mentioned this as a common fraud. He also stressed on the fact that the visa officers spend quite some time determining the authenticity of the applications. This will be a lot easier and convenient process for everyone, they have imagery and if the letter of acceptance is released by a DLI(designated learning institution), added Mr Kochhar.
