Canada Express Entry Scheme Skewed Heavily towards In-Demand Jobs

Canada, 7th April: Critics have maintained that Canada Express Entry is heavily skewed towards jobs in demand now.

Yes, that’s true. Critics reveal that the system seems to be favoring jobs in demand currently.

Canada Express Entry favoring in-demand jobs—Critics reveal that Canada Express Entry is favoring in-demand jobs only. The system was introduced to bring desired improvisations in Canada’s labor market by matching them with Canada employers. But, the current scenario seems to be quite different.

It may be notable that nearly 31,000 invitations were issued in the year 2015 and the figures are going to increase in the coming times as the process is a main route for Canada permanent residency for economic immigrants.

Among those who were successful in Canada Express Entry last year were working as financial and investment analysts(40 percent), cooks and supervisors in food industry(16 percent), retail managers(2 percent) and nearly 8 percent working in tech and design.

Express Entry ranking process—Canada Express Entry ranking system awards 600 points to candidates whose employer has applied for a LMIA(Labor Market Impact Assessment). LMIA shows that the employer made sufficient efforts to find a qualified Canadian for the vacant job position but could not find any.

Many employers maintained that the process is too slow. Moreover, the approval rates are also quite low. This means they are unable to hire the required foreign workers for the vacant job positions. The selection process of economic immigrants must not be weighed too heavily on a labor-market test, feels, a Toronto based immigration lawyer, Stephen Green.

Review of Canada Express Entry by IRCC—IRCC(Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada) will soon be conducting a review of Canada Express Entry. This will include a review of various aspects of Canada Express Entry program.

The review shall look at the LMIA requirement, job offers as well as how it can be used for supporting former foreign students and family reunification. As per an immigration critic Michelle Rempel, the review needs to look at the labor market requirements. Canada’s Liberal government wants to cut 15,000 spots in Canada Federal Skilled Workers Program, 800 spots in Canada Business Class Stream and 8,000 spots in Caregiver Immigration Class soon.
