Details of the new US F1 Student visa rules–What this simply means is that US F1 student visa holders will be allowed to live and work in the US for a period of six years once they finish their study course in the US.

As of now, holders of US F1 student visas are required to take up a minimum study course of nine months for living and working in the US for a maximum period of one year on the completion of their study course.

As per the new rules proposed by the US DHS(Department of Homeland Security), students with STEM degrees can live in the US and work here for a total period of six years under the OPT. That is, three years after successful completion of an undergraduate program, and if needed, another period of three years after a graduate program.
