Canada, 10th August: Manitoba is going to help skilled newcomers get work in their respective fields.
Canada province Manitoba will be offering help to skilled foreigners to get employment in their chosen fields, announced Manitoba Labor and Immigration Minister Erna Braun.

It has been noted that skilled immigrants coming to work in Manitoba are getting taxi cab drivers or in service industry. Manitoba wants immigrants coming here to work in skilled professions. Erna Braun, Manitoba immigration minister, has stated that more resources and funds will be provided for improving the recognition of foreign qualifications.
Also, Manitoba will also be helping their get connected with employers and employees.
Working as cab drivers, service industry–It has been maintained that Manitoba skilled immigrants coming here to work are mostly working as taxicab drivers or in service industry. This is despite the fact that they possess doctorate degrees or engineering qualifications from their respective nations.
Manitoba will be offering around $3 million for Manitoba Start program in the year 2015-16. It will be funding the following initiatives—
- A career development curriculum and training resources.
- Referral and guidance services to new immigrants on accessing financial help including microloans.
- Job matching services for helping newcomers work in their occupational area.
- Profession specific resource guides for assisting newcomers get licensing process in regulated professions.
As per Braun, these new supports and resources will be enabling newcomers transition more easily into Manitoba labor market and enable them make a life and successful careers there. More than 150,000 skilled immigrants have already come into Manitoba since the year 1999.
Since the launch of Recognition Counts, it has already offered the much-needed help to skilled newcomers wanting to get certification, training or upgrading for their education as well as experience recognition, said manager, Recognition Counts manager, Sandra Leone. She further said that she is pleased to offer this valuable resource to continue to be available.
Manitoba Start offered services to as many as 6,000 skilled newcomers in the year 2014. Recognition Counts program offers low-interest and accessible loans to enable foreign skilled immigrants get credential recognition or training required for working in their chosen fields of expertise.
