Introduction of Scotland Post Study Work Visas Likely For Indians

United Kingdom, 8th June: Scotland may be reintroducing Post Study Work Visa for Indians.

So, that may be good news for Indian students wishing to work in Scotland after finishing their study courses.

Scotland Post Study work visas for Indians likely—It is going to be great news if Scotland reintroduces its post-study work visas for Indian students. Indian students will be thrilled by the proposed ruling.

Meanwhile, the only thing is that if Scotland becomes independent from the UK, then the proposal will become a rule. However, this will have to be waited until September as the referendum is scheduled in September this year.

What if Scotland becomes independent from the UK?—Well, if this happens, then the Indian students pursuing studies in Scotland will be allowed to work in Scotland for a minimum period of two years following study completion.

Universities require free exchange of people—The Scottish government is of the view that the immigration restrictions need to be eliminated since they seem to be cutting off the universities’ lifeblood.

Hence, the government wants to reintroduce the post-study work visas. It wants reinstatement of post study work visas enabling graduates to work for two years after they finish their studies.

Michael Russell, the Scottish education secretary, has stated that free exchange of students and scholars is the lifeblood of universities.

Declining enrollments in Scottish universities–Between the years 2005 and 2008, graduates were allowed to live and work in Scotland for two years following graduation under a scheme named Fresh Talent.

It needs to be worth notable that the UK immigration changes led to end of post-study work visa rules for foreign students. This resulted a decline of 51 percent in the number of Indians getting admission in Scottish universities.

Nearly 2000 Indians are currently studying in Scotland. However, declining enrollments in Scottish universities are due to the ruling that requires foreign students to study in Scotland and then leave without getting an opportunity to work after successful graduation.

The declining number of Indian students in Scottish universities is a matter of worry for Scotland. India happens to be a great market for higher education of Scotland. Hence, it is mandatory that Scotland reintroduces its post study work visa scheme for Indian students as soon as possible.
