Migrating to Canada without a job offer

Since the introduction of the new Express Entry program where candidates are ranked against each other based on certain criteria under the Comprehensive Ranking System in which having a job offer is very important, there is one question in the minds of many aspiring immigrants – is it possible to migrate to Canada without a job offer?

A job offer is a valid employment offer given by a Canadian employer to a job applicant. There are two major kinds of job offers: 1) The Temporary Job Offer is for jobs that need your skill for a shorter period and you can work for that period with your Temporary Work Permit. 2) A Permanent Job Offer is valid for an indefinite period under which you can work once you get your Canadian Immigration Visa.

There are various ways in which one can migrate to Canada without a job offer. One such option is the Federal Skilled Worker category. Under this category you are assessed based on your education, work experience, and language skills. You should also have a minimum of one year full time work experience within a ten year period.

The Provincial Nominee Program

The Provincial Nominee Program is probably the most popular of the categories under which there are some categories that does not require a job offer. In Canada, each province has their own immigration program tailor-made to meet the economics needs of that province.

The Quebec Skilled worker category also does not need a Canadian job offer. But those who apply under this program should reveal their intention of residing within the province of Quebec. Quebec has its own unique set of criteria for aspiring immigrants. Successful candidates are first issued a Quebec Selection Certificate and then the Canadian Permanent Resident visa.
