The demand by the advocates for immigrants and migrant workers to scrap the federal bill renovating the Canada’s immigration application process will be transformed into a rally on Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.

The demand of the advocates came after the introduction of the new legislation under which the immigration minister will have the power to decide the number of immigration applications that Canada will accept. The minister also owns the power to deny an application that has already been accepted by the immigration officers and block the entry of would-be immigrants depending upon the situation.

Under the new laws, Citizenship and Immigration Canada does not necessarily need to process all new applications of skilled workers. It would be free to select the applications that needs to be processed depending upon the skills of the applicant and the demand in Canada. According to the government, with the introduction of these measures, there would be a reduction in the backlog of the applications. At present, there are more than 900,000 immigration applications that are unprocessed. And with no measures to reduce the backlog, it was expected to increase at a more rapid pace.

No One Is Illegal, a Vancouver community group termed the proposed changes as anti-democratic and anti-immigrant. The group said that this clearly implies that the government wants the power to select the immigrants depending upon their wealth and their willingness to do temporary jobs that are often exploitive.

Members of No One Is Illegal, Justice for migrant workers and the Chinese Canadian National Council were determined to be a part of the rally.
