Marriage scams have become a conspicuous problem that is giving way to corruption to creep in the immigration system. To sort out this problem, the root-cause needs to be paralyzed first. There is no restriction on Canadians to choose their spouse from any part of the world, but the bottom line is that is- “are all the marriages genuine”? Canada has witnessed so many fraud cases related to marriages that now Canadian Sponsorship of Spouses and Common Law Partners are finding it difficult to sieve and sponsor genuine ones.

The immigration fraud cases have taken a prominent position in the news of Canada and has be remarked as a high alert issue. The warning signals have been extended to immigration policymakers, overseas missions and especially to the individuals who sponsor their spouse to Canada. Marriage is being used a facilitator by the outsiders to gain stand and residency in Canada at the cost of security of nation and the respective Canadian partners. This act of the foreigners is an insult to the Canadians and the policies of the nations, and this demands a tough step to uphold the security of the Canadians and Canada.

The authorities are mooting over the fact and looking for such solutions that would result in the automatic reduction of the fraud marriage cases. One suggestion has come up that is already being followed by United States, Australia and Germany, and this is that foreign spouses should be granted a period of conditional residence. Here the possibly is always there that the foreign spouses might continue to stay in Canada for the mentioned time even in the fake cases. So, this could not be considered the apt means to sort out the deceptive foreigners.

The practical solution to this problem is spread public awareness and reaching the victims to build a strong support network. The steps taken by the CMFVS and by New Democrat MLA, Raj Chouhan are the right kind of steps to counter the ill effects of this problem. Raj Chousan’s has adopted the dual strategy- (1) spreading public awareness and; (2) enhancing the support network with the victims.

The awareness and support problem would indeed come up with good results, but it should be taken in to consideration that it reaches those communities where the victims of fraud marriages are the most. This act of extending support to the victims and assuring them that they are not alone would instigate them to speak out, and this not only help them to come out of such deceptive relationship, but will also cleanse Canada of such deceptive foreigners.
