My experience of immigrating to Canada

I have gone through some immigration experiences in your blog and gone through mixed feelings that most immigrants seem to go through. I though to share my experiences too.

As for introduction, I am Hindu by religion from Gujarat and shifted to Canada about a year ago. My reason for shifting here was that I could not get job that delivers job satisfaction in India While the working hours were long, remuneration pitifully low. Even otherwise, my sister is settled in Australia and had relations in India which could act as bonding factor.

Before immigrating here, I was prepared that I might have to struggle a lot for initial three months, and well my struggle lasted for about four months. In first two months I could get a job that helped me sustain myself. In about six months I could get job of administration assistant in a Vancouver based company.

I am sure, I have shifted to a beautiful corner in the country frequently voted as the best country to live in, especially in contrast with the corruption and atmosphere of religious hatred that was there where I came from. I have come across many ethnic groups from India that seem to portray as if they are the representatives of the entire community, in whatever forum I could come across them, I have always pleaded with them to stop polluting this society.

The best part of this country is that there are no arbitrary decisions here. The government actually is for the people and by the people. Last month when I had to leave for India to pack up things to come back to Canada, my wife felt a bit scared and lonely. A friend of mine advised me, to my horror, that I request nearest police station to take care of my house and especially that they keep visiting my house at night time to check the welfare of my wife and children. When I did, I could not believe the experience that police in any part of the world could be so caring and courteous that the policeman was helpful to the extent of asking that if she does not know driving, would she like to get their help in getting groceries from super market nearby.

Neighborhood is friendly, though people have in general no time to waste or for cold calling, they are generally helpful in case of need. I remember an instance when I lost my way, a young boy offered me a lift to drop me home.

Crime is virtually nonexistent, however, in some pockets, drug menace is raising its head.
