These statistics don’t include self-employed and construction workers applying from Romania and Bulgaria, asylum seekers, applicants who were deported from Britain last year.
Surprisingly, while the queue of potential immigrants to US is growing, asylum seekers were down by about 1%.
Another new trend among the applicants is to claim social benefits as child benefit, Jobseeker's Allowance or state pension and help for homelessness. Earlier, immigrants were bringing in sufficient funds to sustain themselves without any social support and even worked on low paid jobs to sustain themselves.
Since the tightening of immigration and citizenship rules, UK last year deported someone every eight minutes. Britain especially tightened noose on foreign law-breakers, illegal workers and non asylum seekers. It was especially tough on illegal workers as they substantially undercut British wages.
