What makes Canada a model country to live in?

When you land in Canada, you rarely meet any third generation Canadians. You would see people coming from all possible countries in the world. Then what is meant by Canadian Culture?

Though, Canadians come from all corners of the world yet the common feeling of sharing the national purpose makes Canada a unique country in the world.

I come from India and the slogan of the country is “Unity in Diversity” while the reality is Unity is a myth over here. Forget the unity among different states of the country; even in small ethnic groups you would see sub-groups, sub-sub-groups, sub-sub-sub-groups., as for example take the case of Sikhs. Here a Jat Sikh has nothing to do with “Khatri” sikh, who in turn feels nothing common with Namdharis, Ramgrahias and so on. Similarly in Muslims and even Hindus.

On the contrary, in Canada, you can feel the common bond in the air. No doubt, here too you wont see many Chinese mixing with Indians but the whole division is not so pronounced as back home. In job or business, in small scale, communities do matter, but that is only to the extent of networking and the caste system is not as strong as you can see back home in India. At work levels, merit is only thing that matters. For argument sake, you can say that the same works in India too, but to see the real play of what is real recognition of merit and casteless society, you have to see to believe it.

A Canadian is a Canadian and not Vancourian, Calgrite, Torntoian aka Punjabi, Haryanvi or south Indian. Canadian society is without border and come from every corner of the globe to continue to build a progressive, vigorous, multi-ethnic democracy that is unique in human history that has built a unique place in the international community. More and more Canadians are global citizens, exploring the world or staying connected to our countries of origin more instantly, more easily and more inexpensively than ever before.

Here you can see how a country is a role model for a troubled world increasingly challenged by religious and sectarian friction, and environmental catastrophes.

The country is moving towards improving the whole society even more and some steps in this direction are:

1. Provision of better Child care, including early childhood education, available in the schools from the age of 3.
2. Enhanced parental leave to permit one parent to stay home with children for at least the early years of a child's life.
3. This one is very important and should be noted in India. Canada is moving towards no public funding for faith-based schools and a curriculum that includes serious study of religions of the world.
4. Funds to ensure that there is a teacher's assistant in every classroom.
5. Assured access to the full range of post-secondary education to all qualified students.
6. Having true national standards for medicare, with a commission at the national level establishing what services should be necessary for all Canadians, from autism therapy to physiotherapy.
Canada is fast moving towards a well-funded national infrastructure program to help establish public transit, new sewers, safe water supplies, and ensure repairs to existing bridges, roads and railways.

With clear global vision and bold national leadership, Canadians are uniquely positioned to be in the front ranks of a world without borders.
