The incoming spy chief disclosed that by the end of 2013, Canada would collect biometric data such as photos and fingerprints of every visitor from countries throughout the world.
Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Richard Fadden, said while speaking to the Parliamentary Immigration Committee, that the above mentioned program would be underway between 2011 and 2013.
Fadden said on Tuesday that the prime intention towards this move is to capture everybody and to increase Canada’s capacity to determine as to who is in the country at any point of time.
Fadden is bound to become the next chief of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service on the twenty-seventh of June 2009.
The Globe reported that the new technology was initially tested during a field trial in two overseas visa offices which have not been named, from the month of October in 2006 to the month of April in 2007. The results of the test determined that the technology is reliable and extremely effective when it comes to prevention of fraud.
According to some documents seen by Sun Media, the whole procedure will be underway in a phased manner starting late 2011 and will be completed by the end of 2013.
