Suspected serial killer arrested in Mumbai

Live Punjab News Service

Mumbai -- Police Monday arrested one person suspected to be the alleged serial killer of eight people in south Mumbai in the past two months.

Ravindra Kantale had been detained at the Coloba police station since he was picked up by police Jan 23 for questioning, police said.

Kantale was produced in a city court in Ballard Pier Tuesday, which sent him to police custody till Feb 20, a senior police official said.

Police in south Mumbai had been groping in the dark trying to solve the serial killings. Some eight unidentified persons were murdered, raising suspicion that a serial killer was on the loose.

Police suspect that most of the victims who were sexually assaulted before being killed were either out of town visitors or pavement dwellers. Only one victim - a taxi driver - has been identified so far, police said.
