Under proposals from the Home Office, immigrants will be given tips on the way they could access benefits and other services in the UK, and all this would help them in the process of earning citizenship.
As per the plans, mentors will made available to coach people who are willing to live in the UK on a permanent basis, and at the same time, authorities will be expected to plan orientation days aimed to provide guidance to immigrants on services.
All this forms a part of the move to bring into action a points-based system for people who want to acquire British citizenship, and being present on one of the days would give immigrants some extra points in favor of getting citizenship.
It has also emerged that as per the planned new system, immigrants will be denied citizenship if they take part in any unpatriotic activities like demonstration against troops of Britain. On the other side, if immigrants display genuine intent towards helping the development of their home country, they will be given extra points as per a new ethical strand to the immigration system.
As per the new proposals, foreign spouses of Britons will also be required to speak English prior to applying for citizenship and immigrants will be subjected to a tougher test to check their ‘Britishness’, with questions from history and politics of the country.
Immigration minister Phil Woolas said that the government would introduce these proposals in order to make sure that migration is controlled to better public confidence in the system and also control the impact of migration.
