Be prepared for more questions on Canada’s history in citizenship exam

Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said on Tuesday that the federal government is revamping the citizenship program of Canada to take it more towards the values of the country.

Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said on Tuesday that the federal government is revamping the citizenship program of Canada to take it more towards the values of the country.

Kenney said that the government wants to make sure that all people who are becoming citizens of Canada have complete appreciation for the values of the country, such as the rule of law and equality of men and women, along with the symbols and institutions of Canada. He also said that this means that during the citizen exams of applicant, there would be more questions on the history of Canada.

Kenney said that most Canadians admit that more focus should be laid on integration of the Canadian immigration policy.

Kenney noted that the citizenship exam of Canada has not been revised for more than a decade and that it is outdated. He said that by the end of this summer, the changes to the program will be finalized.

Kenney told reporters that the government wants to ensure that when people become Canadians, they should accept the fact that the history and values of Canada are their history and values respectively.

He restated his belief that immigrants to Canada, apart from youth and seniors, must be have a sound commend in at least one of the two official languages of Canada.

The minister also expressed his disappointment over the fact that as little as only 25 percent of newcomers to Canada have got enrolled in language classes to sharpen their skills.
