Immigration officers claim that a Penarth car wash business employed two unsuccessful asylum seekers and as a result of this, a large fine can be imposed on the business.
On Sunday, 26th of April, at about 10:20 in the morning, immigration officials from the UK Border Agency visited Capital Hand Car Wash, which is situated in the car park at Tesco, Penarth Marina, after they verified the immigration status of workers in the company. Officials claim that the business employed two failed asylum seekers who did not left the country after their claims for international protection was rejected. One of the employed men was a 21-year old Iranian and another was a 21-year old Iraqi.
Hysen Muca, the car wash manager, said that both illegal men were employed by a temporary manager who was in charge while he was on leave caring for a sick relative. Currently, the emergency travel documents of the two men are awaited by the Border Agency so that they can be deported as soon as possible.
Till the time they stay in the country, both of them are expected to report to a local police station every week.
The immigration officials slammed an instant penalty notice to the business for allegedly employing illegal immigrants and it is expected that the business may face a fine of up to £20,000.
The UK Border Agency said that if the business wants to avoid the fine then they should prove that proper right-to-work checks were carried out, such as inquiring of the passport or work permit, prior to assigning jobs to the men.
