Man cuts wife's nose, immolates self

Shimla -- A man in a Himachal Pradesh village cut his wife's nose in a fit of rage and later set himself on fire.

Police said the two were working in their field in Jabliyana village in Bilaspur district, some 100 km from here, when the incident took place.

After an argument, an enraged Krishnu Ram, 60, charged at Kamla Devi, 57, and struck her with a sharp-edged farm implement, cutting off most of her nose. She also sustained injuries on her face and head.

Their daughter-in-law Kiran Kumari took Kamla Devi to a nearby hospital late Wednesday.

But Ram shut himself in a barn, set a heap of hay on fire and burnt himself to death, apparently in regret of his act.
