December 28, 2007: Ask any Asian immigrating to Canada about his preferred destination; and prompt you would get the reply Toronto. 95% of the immigrants from these countries have been preferring Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary; in this order of choice only.
Those immigrants who otherwise don’t fulfill the skilled workers criteria or family based immigration but have sufficient funds to invest opt for Manitoba, Saskatchewan etc and then there too immigration consultants are on the job of providing them services as to how they can move to BC or Toronto.
Not any more. These provinces are now investing more and more money to boost their economy and create more jobs. Most such jobs are created by oncoming construction projects that have the prospect of a massive construction boom in 2008, bolstering demand for workers.
According to the Canadian Press, construction projects such as the Bow Tower in Calgary, the new 265,000 square foot Epcor Tower in Edmonton and a series of new high-rises on the University of Alberta campus are highlighting the need for workers.
In Manitoba, spending to settle and train foreign newcomers has doubled over the last two years, leading to a 23 per cent increase in Canadian immigration.
Meanwhile in Saskatchewan, fewer people are leaving to settle in places such as Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver as opportunities in the province are on the increase.
