Kenney encourages prospective applicants to apply sooner

The Canadian Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney has encouraged prospective immigrants to fill up and submit their application for immigration to Canada before the end of March, when the minister will meet federal, provincial and territorial officials in order to review the economic data and subsequently determine if there is need to decrease the immigration levels.

Though Kenney has said that he would not alter the immigration levels for the year 2009, he also said that the immigration system of Canada must be flexible and responsive to the economy, and thus, it is subject to contraction as well. As a result of this, Kenney has been encouraging prospective immigrants to apply as soon as possible.

At present, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has given the go-ahead instruction to the minister to approve new permanent residents during this year between 240,000 to 265,000, and fill the skill gaps in the country and make the economy benefit from the growth.

Kenney said that the immigration system of Canada needs to be flexible, cautious and make sure that their response to short-term conditions do not hamper their long-term goals, in which immigration has a major role to play.

He said that Canada do not want to show a no-entry board to the future growth that is represented by immigration.

Another good news for immigration Canada is that the number of Brits moving to Canada saw an increase in the past year, with almost 8,000 British nationals moving to Canada in the first three quarters if the previous year.
