Ram Bahadur Karki Chhetri and D P Mainali, two Bhutanese refugees who are already taking asylum in the Netherlands, received the refugees after they arrived. Chhetri and Mainali were accompanied by the head of Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service, officials of the COA, officials of International Office of Migration of the Dutch government and a representative from the Global Human Rights Defense.
A statement issued by a refugee (after they welcomed new refugees) quoted the head of Dutch Immigration Department as saying- ‘Welcome to Netherlands’, and said that in addition to expecting good lives, they should also be geared up to expect and face many challenges and obstacles in The Netherlands in order to make a better life.
Karki said while welcoming his countrymen that they all have made a good choice by opting for Netherlands as their home in future and said that their dream to make better lives for their children will certainly be fulfilled in the place.
Currently the refugees are kept at temporary transit accommodation at Amersfoort, which is a nearby city, but very soon the government will help settle them in different parts of the country.
According to the International Organization of Migration (IOM), so far, more than 10,000 refugees have been resettled in different countries.
